Southern Vermont College, Bennington, VT

Division of Nursing

Southern Vermont College is situated overlooking the Green Mountains of Vermont on a mountainside campus. It is structured as a liberal arts college focusing on career preparation. Five academic divisions – Business, Nursing, Science and Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences – provide challenging and encouraging programs with real-world experiences. While SVC was founded by the Sisters of Saint Joseph in 1926, in 1974 it became a private, independent college. Although it is no longer affiliated through any religious organization, Southern Vermont College still encourages life-long learning and service to others.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing

The BSN curriculum promotes responsibility, inquiry, communication, critical thinking, and accountability in the health care environment. Two nursing programs are available with a choice of a pre-licensure baccalaureate and an RN completion baccalaureate sequence. Coursework, simulation labs and clinical experiences are based on nursing concepts for application in all ages and diversities. Learning outcomes for graduates include:

The University of Vermont, Burlington, VT

College of Nursing and Health Sciences/Department of Nursing

The University of Vermont is located in the small town of Burlington along the banks of Lake Champlain. Voted at “America’s #1 College Town” by Travel & Leisure Magazine, UVM offers its students personalized programs through 100 specialized majors. Steeped with a strong history as the fifth oldest university in New England, the university demonstrated a modernistic philosophy by being the first to declare support for freedom of religion. Initially created as a private university, UVM’s status moved to semi-public with the 1862 Morrill Land-Grant College Act. Blending financial support from both public and private entities, the university is well equipped to offer a wide array of programs to its student population.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing

The BSN four-year degree program through the University of Vermont combines interdisciplinary studies with virtual simulation to prepare students for a career as a professional registered nurse. Promoting good health and preventing disease for patients of all ages and diversities are goals of the program. Sophomores begin clinical experiences of the upper-division sequence and complete 600 hours of instruction in acute care settings. UVM is affiliated with several New England hospitals and are utilized for clinical application and the senior practicum. Upon conferral of the degree, graduates are ready to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam. The Department of Nursing proudly boasts a 92-percent pass rate by recent graduates.
